AP 265 - The CMI priests in New York sing the St Thomas chant.

The CMI priests who minster to the faithful in Brooklyn, Queens, New York and New Jersey meet periodically at St. Anthony's - Alphonsus Parish rectory to renew their fellowship with other CMIS in the area, pray together, and share some Kerala food.

 

AP 264 - A unique performance practice of 'Qad Qayen'. Paulose Pallikkara. Alangad.

Here is a local version of the Osana (Holy, Holy, Holy) according to the choir at Alangad Church. Paulose Pallikkara is the choir leader at this Church. The melody, which might have been composed in Kerala, is complex with different sections in different rhythmic styles.

This is yet another new Syriac chant from the Dharmaram team. The team, under the leadership of Br. Thomas Kappil Puthusseril, CMI, is on a history-making journey to create new Syriac chants, short, simple, and singable.

 

AP 261 - Syriac Inscriptions (17th Century) at St. Mary's Forane Church, Pallippuram.

One of the side altars of St. Mary's Forane Church, Chennam Pallippuram, was built in Baroque style, probably in the seventeenth century. A sentence in Syriac is part of the ornamentation of the altar.

 

Our Mission

Christian Musicological Society of India is an international forum for interdisciplinary research, discussion, and dissemination of knowledge, on the music, art and dance of about thirty million Christians in India, who belong to a diverse set of communities and linguistic groups and follow a variety of liturgical traditions some of which date back to the early Christian era. Founded in 1999 by Dr. Joseph J. Palackal CMI, the Society hopes that such researches will draw attention to the lesser known aspects of India in connection with the rest of the world.
